About the project
Lighting Beetle has entered into a five-year framework contract with the European Patent Office (EPO), one of the world's largest and most influential intellectual property organizations, employing over 7,000 staff and generating billions in annual revenue. As a key player in the patent industry, the EPO handles vast amounts of complex information, requiring intuitive, efficient, and user-centered digital solutions.
Lighting Beetle has allocated four dedicated teams to redesign the EPO’s public-facing website, the patent submission portal, internal tools for examiners, and innovative AI tools that support patent examination. This collaboration also focuses on refining the EPO UX design system, a critical asset used to harmonize user experiences across all platforms, while introducing data-driven design. Content, ergonomics and accessibility are key priorities, as the tools provided by the EPO are used daily by its 7,000 employees.
Following a period of successful collaboration, Lighting Beetle was invited to conduct a Customer Experience (CX) maturity assessment to evaluate the level of customer-centricity within the organization. The project produced several initiatives that are now integral to the EPO’s UX strategy.
"Lighting Beetle goes beyond delivering designs; they support us in elevating our CX maturity level." — Jean-Christophe Legrand, Head of Department, User Experience, European Patent Office
