About the project

In 2022, Lighting Beetle redesigned the website of the Slovak National Gallery (SNG). This project was closely linked to the completion of the reconstruction of SNG’s iconic building on the Danube embankment, which brought the need to redefine the gallery’s brand identity and adapt to new expectations for its information channels. The website became one of the key tools in this transformation.

Our goal was to create a digital artifact that accompanies gallery visitors throughout their journey – serving as a comprehensive source of information before an exhibition, a practical guide during their visit, and a means to reconnect with them afterward. In essence, it invites, guides, and reminds.

The project began with in-depth research, including interviews with gallery visitors and experts, as well as an analysis of quantitative website traffic data. These insights informed the concept design. We identified that the symbolic triangle of author-artwork-space resonated most strongly with users. This triangle became the central framework of the website, naturally guiding visitors deeper into the content.

From a user experience perspective, the research highlighted a strong need for a high-quality informational framework. Visitors expect clear details about exhibition durations, opening hours, and the availability of events for families with children or pet owners.

The primary ambition of the new website is to recreate the gallery experience in the most intimate way possible through an online platform.
